For Patients & Families

If you are newly diagnosed, caring for someone with cancer, or preparing to meet your doctor, this section is a simple place to start.

Newly diagnosed: where to begin

If you or a loved one has recently heard the word “cancer”, it can feel overwhelming. We focus on calm, step-by-step information so you can understand what usually happens next and how to use your time with doctors well.

Caregivers: how we can support you

Caregivers often carry the emotional and practical load. SCCF shares clear information you can read together with your family, and simple suggestions for questions you can ask during appointments.

Preparing for your doctor visit

A short checklist of questions can help you use your doctor’s time better and leave with fewer doubts. SCCF is developing a simple “questions to ask your cancer doctor” guide for patients and caregivers.

Awareness & Prevention

Simple, non-technical information on cancer risks, early signs, and why timely medical attention matters.

Myth vs fact (starting point)

  • Myth: “If there is no pain, it cannot be cancer.”
Fact: Some cancers cause very few symptoms in early stages. Do not wait for pain to seek medical advice.
  • Myth: “Chewing tobacco is safer than smoking.”
Fact: Tobacco in any form (smoked or chewed) increases the risk of oral and other cancers.
  • Myth: “Screening is only needed when you are very sick.”
Fact: Screening is meant for people who feel well, to find problems early when treatment can work better.

Care Navigation Support

Helping patients and families move from concern to consultation with less fear and more clarity.

Common cancers in Eastern India and why early detection matters

In many parts of Eastern India, cancers linked to tobacco (such as oral and throat cancers), as well as breast and cervical cancers, are commonly seen. Delays in consulting doctors can make treatment more difficult.

Early detection through awareness of symptoms, regular check-ups, and recommended screening can often lead to simpler treatments and better outcomes. SCCF focuses on calm, practical information that encourages timely visits to qualified doctors.

SCCF supports the "Learn" part of this journey through awareness, guidance, and conversations with oncologists. We always encourage timely consultation with doctors for diagnosis and treatment.
